Install windows 7 oem from retail disk

I was prompted to call Microsoft when I wen to activate, and went through the automated activation on the phone. No problems. Usually with the laptops they have a recovery partition and you can just tell the machine to reinstall from that without any discs required.

Did he just trash the OS, or trash the whole partitions, or is that partition missing? Be careful because some OEMs will not let you use a retail copy.

I got skrewed quite a few times. Some OEMs allow it and others don't. Each type of key required the same type of disc. Although, it is technically possible to change the type of keys an XP installation disc will accept. Starting with Windows Vista, however, Microsoft changed their approach. Similarly, a product key for, say, Windows 7 Home Premium is not specific to bit or bit. I have installed many computers from a plethora of different manufacturers using the same Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 SP1 retail installation discs and never had a problem activating them with their original OEM product keys.

Even if the original product key has rubbed off of the bottom of the computer and cannot be read, it is often still possible to activate the computer the same way the OEM did when it shipped from the factory. I had misplaced my original disc but was able to borrow a friends to install Win7 64bit. The problem I am running into is that after I installed Win7 and entered my CD it says it was invalid. Is the CD key I got only valid for 32 bit?

That would really suck if it was haha.
